The Best Nursing & Pumping Bras: An Honest Guide for Every Body & Budget

You probably don’t need five nursing bras.

You probably need three good ones — and the right three depend on how you actually feed your baby.

The bra you want at 3am for a night feed isn’t necessarily the one you want under a fitted t-shirt. And if you’re pumping, comfort alone isn’t enough. You need something that actually holds your pump parts securely while leaving your hands free.

So instead of giving you a giant list of every nursing bra worth buying, I’ve narrowed it down to the ones that solve different problems well.

Best everyday nursing bra

Kindred Bravely Simply Sublime Nursing Bra

The one I’d start with.

The Simply Sublime has the feature you appreciate most at 2am: a clip you can open with one hand while you’re holding a baby with the other. It is also –

  • Wireless
  • Stretchy
  • Removable padding
  • Comes in Regular, Busty and Super Busty sizing
  • Compatible with many wearable pumps

One distinction: wearable-pump compatibility doesn’t make it a true hands-free pumping bra. If you’re regularly using a traditional pump with flanges, choose a dedicated pumping bra instead.

Best for: everyday nursing · first nursing bra · wearable-pump users · fuller bust options

Best soft everyday alternative: Bravado Body Silk Seamless

If your priority is softness and a smooth look under clothes, this is the alternative I’d consider. Other features –

  • Wireless
  • Removable Foam inserts
  • One handed nursing Clips
  • 360 degree stretch
  • Inclusive size range with band 30-50 and cup sizes B-K.

Best for: softness · sensitive postpartum days · fitted tops · everyday wear

Best pumping bra

If you’re pumping regularly, this is where I’d spend the money.

The double-layer design holds traditional pump flanges in place while leaving your hands free. It also works as a nursing bra, so you don’t necessarily need two separate bras.

Because holding pump flanges against your body for twenty minutes is manageable once. Doing it several times a day gets old very quickly.

Best for: regular pumping · work-day pumping · nursing + pumping · hands-free sessions

Best budget pumping option: Momcozy handsfree pumping bra

Already have nursing bras you love? You don’t need to replace them.

Momcozy is the practical, adjustable option designed specifically to hold pump flanges securely. It’s not trying to be your prettiest everyday bra. It’s the “I need my pump to stay put while I answer emails” bra.

Best for: occasional pumpers · budget · keeping a separate pumping bra

Best nursing bra for sleep

Night feeds need a completely different kind of bra.

You don’t need structure. You need something soft enough that you forget you’re wearing it — with nursing access that doesn’t require fumbling with clips in the dark.

The French Terry sleep bra uses pull-aside access and is also useful for keeping nursing pads in place overnight. They are also great when you are in between sizes during pregnancy.

Best for: night feeds · sleeping · lounging · mamas who hate nursing clips

Best for larger busts

If you’re a D cup or above, finding a nursing bra that feels genuinely supportive can get harder.

Look for actual fuller-bust sizing, band support and wider straps, rather than simply choosing an XL in a standard wireless bra.

Kindred Bravely Simply Sublime Busty & Super Busty

If you like the Simply Sublime but need more room through the cup, look at the Busty or Super Busty versions.

The important difference is that the sizing is actually designed around fuller-bust proportions.

Best for: fuller busts · everyday nursing · mamas who struggle with standard S–XL nursing bras

Best specialist option: Elomi Nursing Bras

If you’ve always needed specialist full-bust lingerie, don’t assume breastfeeding means squeezing yourself into a stretchy nursing bra.

Elomi is worth looking at if you need structured support and genuine full-bust sizing.

Best for: full-bust shoppers · structured support · larger cup sizes

Best nursing & pumping cami

Amazon Essentials Nursing Cami

Amazon Essentials Nursing Cami on Amazon

This is for the mama who wants one piece to do the work of a nursing bra, top and pumping layer.

The design gives you pumping access without completely undressing, while the cami works as a normal clothing layer. It also has a built in shelf bra and the material is not see through.

Especially in those first weeks, when getting dressed already feels like a project, fewer layers can be a very good thing. The only flaw is that it doesn’t fit busty mamas well which is a little off putting but otherwise very comfortable.

Best for: postpartum days at home · pumping + nursing · fewer layers · work-from-home mamas

So what should you actually buy?

If you want the shortest possible answer:

Mostly breastfeeding

Start with:

  • 2 everyday nursing bras
  • 1 sleep bra

My picks: Kindred Bravely Simply Sublime + Bravado Body Silk + French Terry Sleep Bra

Breastfeeding + pumping

Start with:

  • 2 everyday nursing bras
  • 1 hands-free pumping bra
  • 1 sleep bra

My pick for the pumping bra: Kindred Bravely Sublime Hands-Free

Exclusively pumping

Prioritize:

  • 2 hands-free pumping bras
  • 1 comfortable nursing/lounge bra

Fuller bust

Start with proper fuller-bust sizing, not a pile of inexpensive bras that don’t quite fit.

One bra that supports you properly is worth more than three that you’re constantly adjusting.

If you have a specific fit question — size changes, one side being different from the other, a bra that keeps slipping, or figuring out what you actually need for pumping — I’m at mama-rooted.com/contact. Happy to help.

📌 Save this for the third trimester and send it to the mama who keeps asking, “Okay, but which nursing bra do I actually need?”

Lots of love,
